Home is Where Everyone’s Story Begins

Home-ownership

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that builds housing financed by private donations and constructed with volunteer labor. Our purpose is to build homes with families and sell the houses at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.

Please read the following items to see if you have an interest in our ministry AND determine if you meet our three qualifications. If you feel that you meet our qualifications, please down load the qualification letter and parter family application found below and email to gchfh02@gmail.com or mail back to GCHfH, 1407 W. 4th Street, Red Wing, MN 55066. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call and speak with our Administrative Assistant Deb Schubert at: 651-327-2195.

To Qualify:

  1. Need for Adequate Housing
To qualify, you must have a need because your current housing is inadequate. For example, run down and dilapidated (unsafe electrical, poor heating, leaks in the roof, mold, etc.), overcrowded (three to a bedroom), or costing more than 50% of your gross family income.
  2. Ability to Afford a Habitat Home

If you are selected you will actually be purchasing your new home from Habitat and must demonstrate your ability to meet monthly housing payments with adequate stable income and manageable debt.

  3. Willingness to Partner

Each family must agree to complete 250 of “sweat equity” per adult up to a maximum of 400 hours per family. Sweat equity can be earned by helping construct your house, helping with fundraising, working in the office and by attending our mandatory homeowner classes.
